What are the earliest radio shows you remember?
“Superman”, “The Lone Ranger”, “Sgt Preston”, “Helen Trent”, “Inner Sanctum”. You? I enjoy the ones on the nostalgia rebroadcasts, but I never remember having heard them “live”, like “Gunsmoke”.
Ah, yes, Burns and Allen, and Jack Benny (and his underground vault guarded by a Civil War pensioner!), and Amos & Andy (”Do the name Ruby Begonia mean anything to ya?”).
While I’m not quite as “seasoned” as some of the other “seasoned citizens” on this forum, my earliest (and best) radio shows were all of them done by Jean Shepard. If you aren’t familiar with Jean Shepard, let me enlighten you…
You know the popular movie played at Christmas time entitled, “A Christmas Story” about the boy desiring a Red-Ryder BB Gun? THAT story was from Jean Shepard. Take a listen to some of his old radio shows at the link below. He was a true storyteller… SOOOOOOO much better than Garrison Keillor (sp?).
