Maybe its cause they are there to die.
Like the guards can do what they want to the prisoners but that will have no power over the men since they are threre to die.Its Death that has the power over the prisoners.
No matter what they do how much they please or disobey the guards they will be put to death, no option.
So the guards really have no power over the men.
I dont know i am guessing.
Your teacher has power over you because you want good grades right?
But what if you were on death roe, the teacher could have no power over you beacause you have NO reason to want good grades.You are going to die and nothing can change that so nothing but death itself can really have the power over you.
