Lady Rose is a heartbreaking story of love and war set in England in mid-1400. He recounts the ongoing battle for supremacy between the houses of York and Lancaster, the white rose pink and red, respectively. At the same time, two powerful families – the Neville, who favored York and sought peace and Percier that followed no one but themselves – struggled for control of land.
Ingoldesthorpe Isobel Young, daughter of Sir Edmund, Mr. Lancaster was 15 years when the reality of the present War of the Roses threatened to leave to marry the man she loved. Yes, the custom was engaged to a young age at the time and was usually pre-arranged marriage in favor of those involved. However, Isobel fell desperately Sir John Neville, who has been faithful to the house of York.
At this moment in history, King Henry IV on the throne, but because of his mental disorder, Queen Margaret led the country with an iron fist to make money for the poor and sending his army to fight their enemies. Sir John Neville was well known as a valiant knight – son of Richard, Duke of York – who, with his brothers Thomas and Warwick was the lawless Percier between them. The house of York, itself divided between those loyal to the king and a gentle way that Queen Margaret hated for his cruelty.
Although the Lady of the Roses solidly grounded historically, the main objective of the book is Isobel journey as a woman of the house of York, John and their children thereafter. John set for each battle, there were many days and nights that Isobel was afraid that perhaps never to return home life. It is without doubt a powerful story which not only in the center of the action, but also makes you want Isobel – a gentle and good at heart, just wants his family and the rest of England to live in peace.
Author Sandra Worth has made a charming story that is bound to touch on many levels. In fact, if it reaches the end of this book and I did not shed a tear or two, then you have no heart.
