book review chesapeake michener
Which book should I read (summer reading)?
I have to read one of 3 books for history next year. I can choose from Chesapeake (by James Michener), Andersonville (MacKinlay Kantor), or Lonesome Dove (Larry McMurty). I have been looking at some reviews on the internet and have found that all these books are very lengthy (about 1000, 700, and 900 pages, respectively), so I want to choose one that is interesting so I can get through it. I have heard that Andersonville is very enthralling but also very tough to read. I am leaning towards Chesapeake, but I am torn between that and Andersonville. Lonesome Dove doesn’t look that good, but I could be mistaken.
Can anyone who has read one of more these books (preferably for school, ap us history) give me some advice?
Bluegirl – Actually, Andersonville is a pulitzer prize winning novel.
Also, I can’t do anything about these choices.
Gad. THESE are the coices?? the only choices? i would go back to the teacher and request decent books to read, esp. for AP history. go for pulitzer prize winners or at least something more interesting or with more depth. if there’s no other way out, go with the michener.
