Mohawk, a city on the hill of the US-how was the story told if couples Wereindian, black or conservative? Movie Review

Created in 1939, Drums Along the Mohawk is a film about the Revolutionary War in 1770.

The film is based on a novel by the same name by Walter D. Edmonds.

(As I have not read the book, I can analyze to what extent adaptation).

Its director, John Ford (1894-1973) is the only director with four Oscars and the film is the first film in color Ford.

Ford was the director of nearly 150 films and sometimes participate in other work such as quality or writing.

In this film, as shown by the expectations that he had chosen out accurately.

Claudette Colbert (1903-1996) Lana later, in 1999, has been ranked as the twelfth biggest star of all time in a list by the American Film Institute and Henry Fonda (1905-1982) Gil Martin, who was named the sixth star greatest man of all time in the same list, well done.

Edna May Oliver McKlennar lady who got a one Oscar for best actress in a supporting role, also a wonderful way.

And not only the actors and actresses, but also other colleagues

Rennahan like Ray and Bert Glennon won the Oscar for best film in color.

But I think it is sufficient to speak of cinematography and staging areas that creation was good, the style of play has been lighting natural and good special reference to the time the film was young, however, was good too, the film speed according to sex and that is war Adventure is right, the music is beautiful and very appropriate and camera angles and the target was so and so and so.

This is enough because it still read and write film like everything else has a method and above all professional manner today, but I opinion, preferable to avoid repeating

that the methods one by one, but finding a new way.

There so beyond, I would add that the author of the novel, and the director are sceenwriter United States and later, we realize that this situation may influence how they tell the story, and how this film is a film to explain how "A city on a hill", a better word that Mohawk is a city on the hill of America, and thus a metaphor for the United States.

Plot

The action begins with the wedding scene of the actor and actress for the film. Gil Martin (played by Fonda), a country man takes his wife City, Lana (played by Colbert) to the Mohawk Valley near New York.

Not installed in a cabin on the border. They push for a living and building a house for themselves with the help of their neighbors. But as the film unfolds in 1776, the American revolutionary era, the comfort does not continue. In the Indian Ocean and the time Conservatives, who were the Indian allies of the British Army were at war with the Nationalists under the presidency of George Washington.

Therefore, the conflict begins, your house like many other houses were attacked and burned by Indians and Tories. McKlennar Then the lady, his neighbor, gives them a refuge in which to work for her.

For defense, the Mohawk nationalists form an army, and Gil as other men involved in women, military and other permits Lana soldiers behind the front. Ultimately, after a series of battles, the Nationalists win the war and the flag U.S. appears at the top of the church and ends the film images of women and men happy honor, black, white and Indian under the flag of the United States.

Thus, the battles and blood are in all of history. The film contains not only the victory but also the romance and comedy, the exception of Gil and Lana wedding, the birth of his son, the mass dance and many scenes of comedy.

But what about the main theme, subthemes and massaging the film?

Analysis

ΠFrom the history of New Americans

Each film begins with his name and makes film. Although the lenses of interpretation, each has a particular and individual fulfillment of a text, but I want to clarify my understanding Title of film, which are "drums"? What does this word mark, the church bell or the month of March of the army?

Remember the scene that confronts Lana, for the first time, Blue Back, the Indian who lives in friendship with the nationalists. As Lana was never seen an Indian, I was afraid to face a man with a strange color and strange clothing. But "Blue Back" gave a musical instrument, perhaps a stick to show his friendliness and reduction Lana `s afraid of him. His instrument was a traditional Indian, I think, and thus give the new arrivals who I call them new Americans, may be ways that the Indians (Americans age) to build on history for new Americans.

But it is true that Blue Back is representative of all Indians in respect of certain Indians, who were the allies of the British Wool and representative of all Americans?

Women Hero

Given the history of a rich girl who married a farmer, was originally a figure of enormous wool garments and has been the honor of his background she loved as an old pot that belonged to her grandmother. And even facing the Blue Back, for the first time, she just cried and screamed for help, but step by step, became a hero of a woman, she responds with a rural life, agriculture has learned and work on hand, she helped her husband, she was happy, but she lost her home and her first son, who was sick, she gave birth to another child who has been a sign of good future, have beaten, helped the soldiers, she even took up arms, not afraid of death and eventually became an independent woman and the final scene was dressed a mantle of the revolutionary army.

So, after losing the old pot that was a sign of honor to its past it does not get angry because she started to write a new story in the New World, in Mohawk, New York, USA.

This was Lana representative of all Americans, even if she was a woman, but in fact all American women had no effective role in the period revolutionary Lana.

So, this film shows the beginning of the new American history for newcomers, the new Americans with replaced the old American Indians. And shows the impact of war on the changing role of women in American history beginning.

But what about Blue Back? He was the representative of all Indians against Indians who were allies of the United Kingdom?

India and the Indian wild Ž

Overall, the only Indian film was not a savage Blue Back, but Lana for the first time it became Blue Back, I was so scared because Lana s point of view that had a rare image. However, during the film was the only Indian who had converted to Christianity, but does not speak fluent English and even the United States and therefore not been shown to savage.

But other Indians who were allies of the Conservatives, were wild, screaming and was only strange noises, has been shown that the man without culture.

There are so many Blue Back is the representative of the new generation of Indians who were allies of the new American convert to Christianity, speak English and a delegate to the new Latin America.

A person with black patch over one eye;

Is an Indian or an enemy

Only two people in this film of black patch over one eye, a conservative first, second Blue Back.

But what a person with eyes like black spot?

Undoubtedly a pirate, a pirate and a villain.

As the Indians were portrayed as savages, conservatives such as hackers and even the white blueback treated as pirates had also shown that only good people in this film are white revolutionaries.

Therefore, except U.S. is evident in the director's vision of.

Ronald Steel (Steel: 1995) explains the feeling of exception referring to the hero American cinema and "The American hero of the film is a lonely hunter of civilization, society, by virtue. It uses the means of achieving a good drive, do not use force in itself, but for a higher purpose morale. "

And this statement is dedicated to all revolutionaries in this film, which means that this statement is not devoted to conservative Indians.

Colonist Colonist

Another wonderful scene is Mrs. McKlennar, when the Indians were beaten and attacked her house, she refused to leave his bed and fought hand to hand against the Indians, was ready to sacrifice his life to save her bed, she had decided to assassinate him.

But although the film clearly shows how settlers were concerned about family and community, this scene is broken this picture because the lady was not worried McKlennar wool and other members of the house, she was worried about her bed, their individual benefits.

This scene, in fact, explains the role of individualism in the construction of a new America.

"A soldier is a Christain

Recalling the words of Arthur Shields, a priest who invited all the sixteen to sixty men to serve military and warned:''any tax man immediately inform hanged.

This is the story of the Church and the army at that time. A Christian is an activist and diversified. Thus, we face the parallelism rights and faith.

Through this form Mohawk nationalists formed an army and end the U.S. flag was placed in the church.

"Discrimination Skip Black

Looking more closely, we each person in this film, except control children White, India and even the only black in this film who is an officer, fights and happy for the victory.

But the director has said nothing about the discrimination against blacks in this period.

Sex

In this film, the pair of narrators, especially Lana. But how the story says that if the couple was Indian, black or conservative? In the best word, if the filmmakers are not bred to White America?

Can we call this film a movie "Historical" on this point that the filmmakers do not tell the full story?

In fact, this film was produced by the Second World War, the director may develop a feeling like American exceptionalism, the idea that all Americans can live in a community property of all, the purpose of government, and therefore the construction of a city on the hill.

But we must remember here that although the screenwriter and director have developed their own understanding of history in relation to the fact that they are Americans and that some unknown aspects of the real history discrimination as long as black and Indian culture, but particularly explained the stages of state formation colonial life in America's independence, also the role of key institutions of family, religion (the Church), politics (the army), and the economy (agriculture).

The marriage of Lana and Gil, housing construction, which is a true partnership, childbearing, close link between the army and the church, an Indian convert to Christianity and the struggle and the struggle to form a community and is the result of the American flag.
