Andy Warhol

How are Andy Warhol and Mattise alike? How are they different?
I have to write a 5 page paper comparing and contrasting these two (Andy Warhol and Mattise) and I have no idea what to say. Please help me!
They are alike, because they both come under what is known as Modern Art, or Modernism. I am serious when I say this, they are ‘alike’ because they are both middle class white European men(I know that Warhol was American, but his parents were Czech and his real surname was Warhola, and essentially all white people are European). This point i have made is an important part of Modernism, they were radical and challenged ideas and the very nature of ‘art’, but, this ability to ‘challenge’ art was very much something that was being ‘recognised’ as being achieved by ‘white middle class European (and U.S European) Men! This is one of the defining qualities of Modernism, and one of the things which sets it apart from ‘Post Modernism’.
Modern Art or Modernism broke from traditions of the past, it became breaking from traditions due to events in the world like the invention of the camera and WW1.
They are both similar because unlike a lot of artists they both celebrated a form of fame or recognition for their work during their life time.
The way in which they are different is determined by the eras in which they painted, Matisse was a French man painting in the late 1800’s through to the 1900’s. Warhol on the other hand was an American who hit his artistic peak during the 1950’s and 60’s in America. In the 50’s and 60’s it was the beginning of what we know understand to be Pop culture: Celebrities, TV, movie stars and mass brand names like Coca- Cola. So Warhol’s work reflected the times, it was about Celebrities and Mass production, it used printing and flat colours that had a sense of machine like qualities. Matisse was painting at a time when colour and paint itself were still being challenged, for him them use of expressive colours to portray emotion was still a radical approach to art making. So they were the same in the way their work challenge traditions, however, the traditions that were around to challenge at the time were different, thus there art was different.
They are different
